Lolita
Miley Cyrus

How quickly they grow up.
Miley Cyrus, aka Hanna Montana, has
been photographed seductively by famed
photographer Anne Leibovitz.
Leibovitz, known for her edgy
artistic eye, captures Cyrus in seductive
pose wrapped with a simple blanket.
This would be a normal piece in
Vanity Fair in our pop culture indulged
society except that Cyrus is a 15 year old,
billion dollar media sensation whose persona
captures the innocents and purity of
childhood.

Even though she has publicly
apologized to her fans on her web site
critics have had a field day implying she is
nothing more than a modern day Lolita.
In viewing the photos, I believe they
artistically capture the transition of a
girl blossoming into a young woman.
The teen age years are the most
challenging as a young person’s transforms
into adulthood.
Noted Atlanta photographer, Rose
M. Barron touches on this theme in her
latest series, “Teenage Kicks.”
As in Leibovitz’s photographs of
Cyrus, Barron beautifully captures with the
camera eye the challenges of adolescence.
The teenage years are a journey
filled with self doubts, introduction and
exploration of sexuality, and seeking
individual identity. Adolescence is a
journey into finding one’s inner spirit.
In explaining her latest series,
Barron exclaims, “my work presents the
complexity of young people and encourages
the viewer to engage in their complex and
engaging humanity.”
A must see for all who want to
experience a visual metamorphosis of beauty.
Opening reception for the Barron’s
“Teenage Kick” series will be in
Atlanta
on Friday, May 23 from 7 PM to 10 PM at the
Sycamore Place Gallery in Decatur.
The
series runs from May 23 through June, 14,
2008. For
