Interview: Charles Martin (L) for the 2nd District U.S. House for the State of California

1. What distinguishes you from your opponents?
I am more interested in truth than getting elected.

2. How long have you been involved in politics? Do you remember the first time you voted?
This is my second for congress.

3. What is the greatest challenge of public service?
Remembering just how little elected officials have accomplished as
compared to how much they have made worse.


4. What is the most important issue facing the 2nd District?
Our failing school system.


5. What advice would you give someone thinking of running for public
office?
Do it.  Seeing elected officials in action is a good wake-up call.

6. What is your favorite political book?
"The True Believer" by Eric Hoffer.

7. What was your favorite political TV program?
Slatterys People

8. How did you become involved in the (L) Party?
They are the closest in principle to my own beliefs.

9. Who are your political mentors? What are some of your favorite political quotes?
Truman, Churchill and Ragan

10.  Will the U.S. invade Iraq by December 2002? Should they invade?
Yes. No.

11.  If you were in Congress today, what would be your first bill to sponsor?
Replace the income tax with a national sales tax.

12.Why should the citizens of the 8th District elect you on Nov. 5th, 2002?
I am the only candidate that will work to allow each individual to
achieve to their highest possibility.

13. What are three legislative bills in the U.S. House that you support
and why?

Make CCW permits issued legal in all states,  decriminalize drugs,  do
not rejoin UNESCO.


14. What is your view on the recent Enron debacle? Will the new federal law be effective?
The system worked.  No.

15. Do you support the current Tax cuts passed by the US House?

Yes

16. How do you improve education in CA and around the U.S.?
Restore all decision making to the local school board level.

17.What type of Health Care reform is needed in the U.S. today?
Free market.

18. With the recent sniper in D.C., do you think this will propel the gun
control movement?
I hope not.
